Yes! it is finally Spring! the most beautiful season, full of new beginnings everywhere. If you haven’t been to school lately the daffodils are out and look gorgeous!. I am really enjoying the drive out to school in the morning as watching the young calves playing in the paddocks.

Power Outage

The recent power outage saw the school closing for the day as we had no water.  This event highlighted that we need to update our emergency procedures as it took all day to get the students picked up from school. We just couldn’t get hold of anyone!.  I am concerned about what would happen if the power was out and a child became unwell and needed to go home.  We will discuss this matter at our board meeting on Wednesday and make a procedure for any future events.  In the meantime, if the power does go out please contact the school or drive to the school to see if you need to pick up the children.  All families should have a plugin phone as a backup.

Garage Sale

A big thank you to Claire Hall for organizing the local garage sale. What a fun day!

Thank you to all of you that helped out by setting up, cooking, holding stalls, coming along to support the school, packing up and donating items.  We made close to $1000 for our school end of year trip.  I know I made around $200 from my stall but spent it again buying new treasures  from the other  stalls.

A big thank-you to  the Hall committee especially Nelson, Sam and Christina.  Thank you to all our local stall holders  Patsy and Don, Sika Farms, Sika Lodge , Kris Shirnack and our hard working board of trustees.

Concert

Our term will end with another celebration of learning. This term we have been lucky to have Whaea TeRina teaching us rock n roll  and line dancing. She has also taught us some really fun songs and how to play tunes on keyboards and other instruments.

Please come to see our concert on

school finishes for the term on Friday the 28th September.

Term 4

With the warmer weather we will need students to wear their summer uniform next term. This is just a change from the black pants to our school shorts for boys and skorts for girls. Ask Lorraine at the office if you need to order  a new pair.

B.O.T meeting-

Wednesday the 19th at 6.30pm in the staffroom. All welcome.

Science

Our students have been enjoying the new science experiments we have been doing with our House of Science kits. Last week we learnt about  forensic science and the children got to examine our finger prints, compare handwriting, do some powder identification using water and litmus paper and solve a crime ( even if it was pretend). This week we are looking at light and making our own torches.   Fantastic hands on learning.

Next term Fish n Chip Fridays

You will be able to order ‘fish n chips’ from the lodge every Friday next term. They will be $6 for a piece of fish and some chips. You will need to bring the exact change to school. The fish n chips will be ordered in the morning and delivered to school for lunch.

We will only have the option of ‘fish n chips’ at the moment but may add others items  to this once we see how popular it is. Andrea Haycock
